often on this journey of self-development, we start becoming aware of our triggers, traumas, traits, and tendencies. and we start wanting to evolve beyond them. there naturally comes a point where healing can become obsessive, which can actually be totally counterproductive. because in our goal of healing, we lean into ego and start to notice everything wrong rather than everything right. and we start to hyper fixate on ourselves, rather than enjoying the company and presence of others. i have noticed this in myself time and time again and also in peers.
for a song that captures this concept:
focusing on healing just allows us to have another illusion of control and keep our minds busy rather than sitting with ourselves as we are.
so what are some other things to focus on?
helping others
joy
play
animals
nature
prayer and meditation
take-home: Spend today focused on something that isn’t you - add a bit of joy, pay for someone’s coffee in line, do a weird dance; break the comfort zone and embrace the unknown.
quote: "Healing may not be so much about getting better as about letting go of everything that isn't you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are." - Rachel Naomi Remen.
